Advanced and gifted students often under-achieve at school due to boredom or lack of a challenge. According to the TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) report, “A typical U.S. eighth-grade math textbook deals with about 35 topics. By comparison, a Japanese or German math textbook for that age would have only five or six topics.” As a result, even the most talented students acquire only a surface understanding of the concepts they learn, rather than a deep comprehension of the material studied.
At Math Illuminated, we focus on providing specific knowledge of advanced mathematical concepts and problem solving techniques at a scope-and depth-level not available through a typical school curriculum.
